11 Tips to Stay Positive during a Pandemic

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

Hi friend! I'm sending you good thoughts and virtual hugs today. So many of you loved my 50 Things To Do while in Quarantine post, so I wanted to offer some more tips to help you get through this tough time. In this post, I'm sharing 11 Tips to Stay Positive during a Pandemic. I hope you are doing well, staying sane, and taking care of your health. We can get through this together!

11 Tips to Stay Positive during a Pandemic

1. Remember that things will get better and good things are coming

I want to start this list off on a really positive note. No matter what tips you try to stay positive right now, this is the most important one! Trust that things will turn around and this all will get better. Have faith and believe that good things are coming to you.

2. FaceTime your people

I'm sure you're already on FaceTime with family members or on Zoom with your group of friends! This is such a great way to feel connected and seeing each other's faces makes you feel less far away. If you haven't been video chatting for work or personal conversations, I highly encourage you to do so! It helps having support and knowing we're all adjusting right now.

3. Get some sunshine

Take advantage of your flexible, work from home schedule and get outdoors! Go on a walk (away from others please), read a book in your yard, or sit on your front porch! If you don't always have time to get outside, even sitting next to a big window helps lift your spirits throughout the day.

4. Do things that bring you joy

Have fun! Don't just lay in bed all night binge watching Netflix. Do something you love to do. Start a new painting or craft. Learn how to play a new song. Have a game night with your family. Find time to do things that make you genuinely happy and you'll be feeling a whole lot better.

5. Focus on a positive affirmation (I have a list of 50 positive affirmations here.)

Find a positive affirmation that speaks to you and don't forget it! Write it down, speak it, hang it up in your bedroom. Choose a mantra that slaps you in the face and is a total wake up call! This way it will really hit home each time you read it. Check out these positive affirmations for some inspiration!

6. Take care of yourself

Self care is so so crucial to feeling your best. Something about self care nights just makes you feel like you've got your shit together! Shave your legs, put on a face mask, actually floss your teeth, take a warm bath with a candle burning while you sip a glass of your favorite wine. Get into it! Taking care of both your physical and mental health will help you focus on you and your happiness.

7. Heal your gut

Have you ever heard that your gut is your second brain? Your gut sends signals to your brain and affects your serotonin levels. Eating healthy, whole foods that heal your gut can promote positivity. I recently watched this YouTube video from HealthNut Nutrition on what to eat for anxiety which I recommend checking out!

8. Make a happy playlist

Start a new playlist with all of your favorite songs. I am a huge music person and I always have certain artists and songs that help me through different times in m life. Create a fun dance playlist or your favorite throwbacks that automatically put you in the best mood!

During a time like this, it helps to recognize all of the blessings in your life. Do you get to spend more time with you loved ones? Are you lucky enough to work from home? Are you in good health? Write down one thing you're grateful for each day and focus on the good. Learn how you can reduce stress by journaling in this post.

10. Talk to others who have a positive mindset

Surround yourself with people who are positive, loving, kind, supportive. If you're feeling anxious or stressed, call someone who you know will calm you down. Chat with your most chill friend or a funny family member who can cheer you up instead of calling someone who you now is equally stressed or scared as you are. The #coronavirus #pandemic is allll over the news and is one of the only topics people are taking about right now. Try to have a light-hearted conversation about something else to get your mind off of it.

11. Give back to an organization that you're passionate about

Giving back and helping others makes me feel good. Consider donating to a cause you're passionate about or donating food to your local food back. With so much negative talk going around, do something that you can feel good about and add some positivity into the world right now. Put some of the money you're saving from your work commute or from not dining out toward an organization that helps your community or those in need.
