The Key to Body Confidence

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

"Don't compare your life to others.

There's no comparison between the sun and the moon,

they shine when it's their time."

You must love yourself as you are and learn to ignore negative comments from others in order to find peace with your body. Sometimes it is easy to love one's self because we may not notice our personal quirks as others do. A perfect example of this undeniable confidence could be your outspoken kindergarten self. We had no problem accepting and confirming compliments because we did not doubt they never be true. Our younger selves did not acknowledge anything that could make us stand out from the crowd. Why can't this pure confidence and belief in ourselves carry through to adulthood?

Society, social media, perfection, and body image standards weigh down on us. We start to questions our abilities, worth, and beauty. Am I smart enough, funny enough, or pretty enough? What should I change about myself so that I am more of these things? As we consider how we might polish our inner and outer appearances, we stray from the most important piece to achieving body confidence: self-love.

You are only as _______ as you think you are.

Fill in this sentence with anything you want to be.

~ beautiful, strong, resilient, brave, happy, blessed

It is completely up to you to determine your own worth.

When you let go of pressures from society and stop making comparisons to others, great happiness with fill your life. Focus on activities that make you feel good and surround yourself with people who love you as you are. When you learn to love yourself first, you will be able to spread love and positive vibes to others more easily. Start a chain reaction of acceptance, pride, and happiness for yourself and those who look up to you.

One way I like to further my own body confidence is to appreciate my body for its health and strength which allow me to chase my dreams. I challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone and make an extra effort to love your body as is. Wear something that shows off your shape, post a picture where you feel beautiful and strong, nourish your body with a healthy meal to say thanks for pushing you through a tough day or workout. I challenge you to go out of your way to brighten someone's day. Always be honest and genuine when lifting up those around you. Making someone smile or feel even better in their own skin will pull positive energy towards you as well.

Body confidence is a journey and you may find it difficult at times to accept changes in your appearance or life. However, keep in mind that your voice overpowers any negative whispers around you. Stop making comparisons, practice self-love, feed your confidence, challenge yourself, and soon watch others cling to the body positive light radiating from your loving, happy, and peaceful soul.
